Bravery

This is my cousin's daughter, Brittney, and she's been featured on this blog several times. Last May she was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in her cerebellum. She's been through surgery to have it removed and is now fighting a long hard battle to beat this completely. She has shown such great strength that I wanted to acknowledge it here. We're all very proud of her.

I think this is one of your most powerful portraits. I'm amazed she would let you take her photo; let alone post such a personal story.

Thanks to all of you for your comments. I'm glad this photo had such an impact, and that people understood what I was going for. Britney is only 19 years old, but has shown the maturity and strength of someone far older. She's amazing.
