5 Years of "RyPhoto"

Well, I've been blogging consistently for 5 years now. So many exciting things have happened in the last five years, and I've learned so much. I can't wait to see what the NEXT 5 years will bring! :)

Princess Photo theft on the App Store

Apparently "Armando Beltran" from the Desafio Mobile Corp didn't want to get my permission to use my photos.
Not happy.
By the looks of the artwork, I'm guessing they didn't get Disney's permission for the rest of it either.

Arielle

Arielle was born right after the Little Mermaid came out, but she says the movie did not have anything to do with her parents naming her "Arielle." (Yes, I'm aware that the character's name is spelled "Ariel")
Anyway, her and the make up artist came up with this outfit. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but I guess it kinda works.

Magnificent Face

Ashley has such a great face and beautiful features. She was a lot of fun to work with. Although she may look very serious here, she really loved to joke around. She doesn't take herself too seriously.

Melissa was in an "Old Navy" commercial recently and has received a lot of attention for being a "Kim Kardashian look-a-like." (Not sure I agree)
Apparently Kim feels that Melissa DOES look like her, because she filed a lawsuit against Old Navy for using her "likeness."

Alexia came back for a second shoot. We work very well together, and she's very photogenic.

Corona/ Jessie Camacho follow up

Jessie recently sent me this pic of her posing next to one of the full sized standees that were used in stores around the country. We actually shot that bikini pic in my living room back at my old condo. Jessie now lives in Miami and recently gave birth to a baby girl.

Meet Lucky....he got signed with a modeling agency yesterday, and I photographed him yesterday.....so I guess I can always say that I was the first to photograph him as a signed model.

10 years ago

TEN years ago, to this day exactly, some of my co-workers and I released a movie called "Nerf Wars 2" which we created together. I don't totally remember how it came to be, or how we talked each other into coming in on weekends to shoot it, but it did happen, and it was a very special thing. The fact that a bunch of co-workers came together and sacrificed their personal time and worked really hard to make this silly little movie......well, I've never seen anything like that since.
On a separate note, this also marked the beginning of my switch over to digital photography from film photography, and I never looked back.

Jessica Rabbit/Courtney Black

Courtney stopped by this past week to discuss a future shoot. Her hair color is no longer red, but I thought I'd take a pic of her next to her famous portrayal of Jessica Rabbit.....which is still my most popular image thus far.

COMIC-CON

I met Kim 2 years ago while up visiting friends in Bellingham, Washington. We've remained good friends ever since. She came down to visit me last year, and once again this year. She's always been very supportive of my photography and we try to shoot together whenever we see each other.

Rapunzel update: Tumblr!

What is Tumblr? Well, I'm still figuring that one out myself, but apparently it's a new way of blogging that is very popular with young people today. If you'd like to find out more, go to http://www.tumblr.com/about

Anyway, I was happy to see that the Rapunzel pic I just posted received over 1,000 notes on Tumblr within a week! What does that mean? It means the picture has been "liked", commented on, or re-posted over 1,000 times, which means a lot of people are seeing it. I had a good time reading some of the funny comments.

Anne came back to shoot with me again. She has a great classiness to her, and I think it comes across in her photos.

RAPUNZEL!!

Hey, I finally finished!
Disney's latest princess, Rapunzel turned out to be the next project in my line up.
I really enjoyed the movie, "Tangled", and I feel that it's probably the best thing that Disney Feature Animation has done in the last 10 years. I was glad to see it become a hit and do so well.
For those of you that don't know me, I work as a Character Artist at Disney, majored in Character Animation at CalArts, and I love photography. Can you see how these princess projects came to be?
The princesses seem to be the most popular photos in my portfolio, so I will continue to work on them, one at a time. I really enjoy these projects, but they are a LOT of work.....probably more than anyone realizes.
TWO things are required to make one of these shoots happen...a GREAT COSTUME and A GREAT MODEL. Skyler Vallo is the model....and as far as I'm concerned, she IS Rapunzel.
Many of you have heard this story, but let me tell it again. I spotted Skyler's photos on a modeling website called "Model Mayhem." I e-mailed Skyler and told her that she'd make a great Rapunzel. She wrote me back and informed me that she in fact, plays Rapunzel at Disneyland!! At that point, I knew for sure that she was a fantastic casting choice for this project.
Unfortunately, we couldn't take the costume from the park, so I had to have one made on my own, this is a one-of-a-kind. It was made by Erlinda Armendariz. She's very talented and also made my Pocahontas costume and upcoming Belle costume. Hair and Make Up was done by Jeremy Austin. He had to construct 15 feet of hair! Did I say only 2 things are required for a shoot like this to happen? I was wrong, there are so many more things than that.
Anyway, this is the 5th princess project I've done, following Snow White, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Sleeping Beauty. No, Jessica Rabbit doesn't count. : )
I hope you like my interpretation of Rapunzel, I worked very hard on it. I included a behind the scenes shot of Skyler and I just for fun.

I've worked with Daphne 7 times now, which is the most I've ever worked with anyone. You can currently see Daphne in Pirates of the Caribbean 4. She plays a mermaid.
